Dear Editor,

We read the publication on “Role of second-look transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBTs) for newly diagnosed T1 bladder cancer: Experience at a single center” with a great interest.[1] Tseng et al. concluded that “TURBT could help in deciding the subsequent treatment step if a residual tumor was found.”[1] In fact, the second look is the common practice use in many kinds of surgery including to gynecological surgery. As noted by Sijmons and Heintz, the procedure did not increase survival rate and was not recommended.[2] Sijmons and Heintz mentioned that the usefulness of the second look exists in case of recurrence due to irresponsiveness to chemotherapy.[2] The high rate of tumor detection, if not a recurrence, in the study might imply the failure of thefirst surgery. The failure or complete removal of the tumor at thefirst surgery is usually a big problem and considered an important human error in surgery.
